Anyone For Tennis?

It won’t have escaped anyone’s notice but football is back.

The championship is in full swing (although there’s fans of one or two clubs here in the Football Business office that wish it wasn’t) and The Premier League joined in at the weekend (nice unbeaten start for us, thank you very much…even though we are physical apparently, according to Mr Villas Boas.)

Now, you might think that the Premier League or Football League has little to teach you when it comes to running your very own community 5 and 6 a side leagues (unless you bring the overhead height rule in to suit my boys…) but you’d be wrong.

And it’s all to do with tennis.

With due apologies to anyone reading this that likes tennis, tennis is not a sport that resonates often in the public conscience in this country. Apart, that is, from two weeks at the end of June, start of July.

Wimbledon fortnight.

Now there are people like me, who wouldn’t watch tennis if Anna Kournikova was playing Martina Hingis in my garden (ok I might have a look just out of curiosity), but in those two weeks tennis clubs up and down the country will be packed out with people playing – and although I am sure these places make a good living the rest of the year, a month after Andy Murray has been knocked out in the semi finals they are back down to the hardcore.

So why am I telling you this?

Simple. If you aren’t out doing all your promotion right now then why not? Just think, if tennis (which is at best a minority sport) can do as well as it does on the back of Wimbledon, just think what you can do when it comes to football. The National Game that is popular even in the worst of times.

There will never be a better time to get teams into your league. The summer holidays are coming to an end, the football season is starting and people will be desperate to join up and play a game of 5 and 6 a side football again.

All you have to do is make sure they know you are there providing them the opportunity. And if you need any help with that, get in touch with us at Football Business

Now, anyone for tennis? Where’s my strawberries and cream?
